what’s the difference between copying the files off a DVD to your hard drive and ripping a DVD?

they say you should use DVD decrypter to rip a DVD but why can’t i just copy the files off the DVD to my harddrive? I have anyDVD running so I don’t have to worry about encryption, so why can’t i just copy and past rather than use DVDdecrypter?

2 things:
1. encryption
2. file size
So if you have no worry then just copy the files off. But as copied file encryption still there and the files remain rather unportable.
