What codecs do I need after ripping a DVD?

I just ripped a movie from a DVD using “DVD Decrypter” and “Auto Gordian Knot (AutoGK)” When I open the avi file, it says that windows media player doesn’t support it and that I may need the correct codec. Does anyone know which codecs I need and where to get them? Also, how do I install them?
