How do i make a dvd from the videos i have in my computer?

i have a dvd burner “nero 7″ software but when i try to add files to make a dvd it wont let me. i can make in to a data only but i cant play it on a a regular dvd player.it says something like file not found dont know what the heck is going on. and also when i record stuff from vhs to the computer says the same thing. vcd’s i can make but it’s not the same as the dvd since a vcd holds only 80 min. what do i need or do?
