How do I know whether to use dvd-r discs or dvd+r discs to record movies from my computer?

I want to be able to play it back on my dvd player.. idk if that changes anything
I don’t have the manual for either but on the side of my computer it says DVD R/RW and i have a sony dvd player that doesn’t say anything about it on it.

      For the or format it should also have the appropriate logo on the appropriate logo on.
