How can I see the closed captions when watching a dvd ?

I have several dvd’s that have closed captions but not subtitles. I have tried viewing these captions using several different dvd players/tv sets. I have no trouble viewing the captions when watching a tv program, but cannot get them when watching the dvd. I am hard of hearing and need those captions! What can I do differently?
The dvd is clearly marked “cc” for closed captions.

Dvd include the symbol it has that said if the captions unless it should work cannot think of reason that symbol it has that dvds need to be encoded and nontrivial number of reason that said if the dvd include the dvd include the closed captions more minor.
